Sandspit is a great base for exploring the natural world, enjoying world class fishing, or just relaxing, playing a round of golf, and soaking up island life. Sandspit's location makes it a great access point for parks and conservancies where outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy kayaking, hiking, and camping. Sandspit's location as the closest community to Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve means that it is the usual starting and finishing point for guided tours or independent trips to that area.

Sandspit is also a good starting point for visiting the other communities of Haida Gwaii. Fly into Sandspit Airport from Vancouver and stay the night before continuing on your journey to Graham Island.
A great tourist information resource is the Sandspit Visitor Information Centre located in the Sandspit airport.
