If you are a long time resident, this site will help you stay in touch with current events and resources in your community. If you are just visiting, look no further for information on things to do, resources for visitors, and interesting information about the town.
Sandspit is a small town (pop: 317, 2011 census) located on the north east tip of Moresby Island, in the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii. It gets its name from its location on a long peninsula of sand and gravel, giving it wonderful ocean views of the calm inlets to the west and the wild Hecate Strait to the east. It has the largest airport on Haida Gwaii, a modern marina, and a great Visitor Centre. Sandspit's history centres on logging, but the economic base of the town has now broadened to include a significant amount of tourism, due to its location as the “gateway to Gwaii Haanas”, the famous Park Reserve located in the south of the islands.
Recreational opportunities abound for visitors and residents of all ages and abilities. Sandspit is a great base for hiking, camping, kayaking, fishing and hunting. The town is close to various protected areas that showcase the beauty and diversity of the islands' environment.
